  1. I wouldn't.  Although, it does depend on the version of Exchange you will be running.  I would recommend installing a virtual environment on your older OS to emulate Windows 2003 Server R2.  There are tons of virtual emulator's out there most free to download.  This is the best OS to run what your needing on.

  2. It is generally not possible to run server services like Exchange on a normal client OS. There are ways to do it but the extra load on the machine can make it incredibly slow.Definitely not on 95. There is not always a great difference in the systems, but a server OS normally has many inbuilt services a client system would not. If you really need a mail server, one option is to dedicate a (possibly older) machine as a server and use Linux. This comes with ALL the services built in, and you can choose which you need to use to minimize the load. It includes the sendmail and postfix SMTP mail servers which are the most common in use on the internet, along with various POP3 and IMAP servers.

  3. Power and complexity - far more for a server OS. You could but it would perform miserably so don't do it.

Win95 is so antiquated that it must be a bad joke.WinXP Home can't run a server of any kind.
