What is the difference between derived units and non-derived units?

In the metric system, non-derived or basic units refer to the units of the fundamental quantities like kilogram, candela, mole, Kelvin, meter, etc.,. while a derived unit is one which is a combination of these basic units such as steradians, kilometer/hour.
