  1. Directional freeride or allmountain boards will typically have a longer, wider nose and shorter, narrower tail.  There will usually be a progressive flex pattern across the board from front to back as well.  The boards are shaped that way to float better in powder, have a longer (shallower) sidecut for better stability at speed, and may be stiffer for better performance in chop or uneven snow conditions.  In contrast, twintips tend to be softer and more forgiving to land from jumps, have shorter sidecuts to make it easier to carve spins during takeoff, and are symmetrically shaped so that riding it forwards or backwards is the same.

  2. All freeride boards are directional, all freestyle boards are twin tipped, All mountain boards can be either directional or twin tipped. Basically directional boards are designed to be ridden in one direction they are shaped so they can handle well at high speeds. Twin tipped boards are designed to be ridden either in your regular stance or switch stance and are easier to spin. Hope this helps good luck with the riding.
