Question:

What is the difference between english literature pieces and normal fiction writing?

i know the difference that is splayed out obviously (as in, the language is different and a lot of its old) but really how can you DISTINGUISH, like read some writing and just say..yep thats literature. is it the storyline, the plot, the complication of the story?

  1. Literature is a very broad term. It can refer to any written piece. It doesn't just mean it's old. A new novel can be called English literature. You can refer to newspapers as literature.


  2. Literature is, ( I think), any writing that has stood the test of time. It includes drama, short stories, novels, poetry and also writings about each of these subjects, and can be fictional or true. There is also a wide field of instructional literqture

    Shakespeare wrote his plays to entertain  the ordinary people. They became so popular that they were passed on to the following generations, thankfully.

    If you like a story, that makes it light reading. If many other people like it, then it will run into many editions and have the chance of being passed on to the following generations. Thus, it becomes part of our literary heritage.
