What is the difference between evaporation, condensation, and boiling?

Which of these takes energy and which releases it? Which of these is involved in forming clouds and fog? Explain.

    evaporation is water turning into steam

    condensation is steam turning into water

    boiling is the temp that water requires to turn to steam

    both evaporation and condensation are involved in the formin  of clouds and fog.

    and im not sure which one releases energy but boiling takes it.


  2. Evaporation and condensation are phase changes.  They are both related to a quantity called the latent heat.

    Boiling occurs when a liquid undergoes a localized phase change from liquid to vapor.  Two phases of the substance exist simultaneously and is therefore called a two-phase mixture.  The boiling point is the temperature at which the vapor pressure of the liquid is equal to the surrounding pressure.
