  1. Kind of like the difference between a piano (DNA sequence) and Beethoven's 5th symphony (gene activity).


  2. Gene activity is the transcription of gene.

    DNA sequence is the arrangement of four bases in the DNA.

  3. The sequence of the DNA determines the product (protein) which will ultimately be produced (via mRNA) by that gene.

    Whether the gene produces the mRNA for the protein or not is the gene activity.  When a gene is expressed then the mRNA is produced and the gene is active.When the gene does not produce the mRNA then it is inactive and not expressed.
