What is the difference between hoof conditioner and hoof dressing?

    hoof conditioner same as human cuticle/nail oil conditioner

    hoof polish same as human nail polish

    Polish is mainly used for luster when showing


  2. Conditioner is used to help condition and moisten the hooves. Dressing is used to shine them up and mae them look pretty for shows :)

I would consider a conditioner as one that is Lanolin based it absorbs and softens the keratin that makes up the foot.  A hoof dressing is oil based, while they're very often confused as the same thing, oil seals the hoof.  It will prevent moisture from being drawn out of the foot by a dry environment and give you a softer healthier foot but it doesn't actually condition the hoof itself.  Additionally, the oil will help seal excess moisture out of the hoof, great for very wet spring and fall conditions as a soft hoof causes it's own set of issues.
