What is the difference between identity and role in social psychology?

These two seem so very similar, and I have to explain them in a paper and I am finding it completely difficult... please help me!

Identity is who you are , you are a 24 yr old female(for example).This is what you use when you define yourself, Basic facts about yourself.

Role is what your identity plays upon. What role you lead in life. This is something you choose to do. what you make yourself to be like, the things you do, the actions you take, the choices you make.
