What is the difference between intel centrino core 2 duo and intel core 2 duo?

  1. The Core2Duo is a processor chip.  The Centrino Core2Duo is the same processor chip paired up with an Intel chipset for neworking / communications.  Centrino is a marketing name.  Compare machines by the model number of their Core2Duo processor which should be stated in the specifications, it'll be a letter and 4 numbers like E1234.


  2. The core2duo is just the processor,

    where as the centrino is a certain combo of intel based motherboard + processor + wireless card adapter. It supposedly uses less battery and has better performance then the core2duo paired with other random devices.

  3. I think that the Centrino was made before the regular core to duo and that it was made for laptop use only.  The core 2 duo is more of a desktop processor.  Personally I would get the regular core 2 duo.
