  1. A kayak has a closed deck with a cockpit that may be secured against the entry of water.

A canoe is a narrow boat with an open deck....Hope I helped!!

  2. Many definitions are available.  A kayak is a boat paddled with a double bladed paddle while sitting down. A canoe is a boat paddled with a single bladed paddle while kneeling or seated. Often the use of a kayak is referred to as canoeing. Organized competition has precise definitions and specifications for both canoes and kayaks as well as propelling methods. Typically a canoe is an open boat and a kayak is a decked craft.

  3. the difference is the paddle,(NOT oar).  kayak is from the inuit eskimo craft, with a double bladed paddle, the canoe is an ancient design,(back to the dugout, but common ones are taken from north american indian designs. they have a single bladed paddle.

both can have closed cockpits, and spraydecks. mainly canoes are open, kayaks closed. confusion comes from the use of canoe /canoeing as a generic term. it can be used to describe both forms. kayaking is purely kayaking. kayakers and canoeists will argue about which is best,  then rafters will run them both over.

  4. Kayaking is usually  a narrower boat with a cockpit and deck and some comes with hatches and you paddle with double blade oars.  Canoes are generally an open boat that is wider  and paddle single blade oars.

  5. They're spelt different

  6. The answers you have had are wrong, I'm afraid. You can have an open kayak and you can have a closed canoe.

The true difference is not the boat, but the paddling technique and shape of paddle.

Kayaking is done with a double-bladed paddle, like a windmill.

Canoeing is done with a single-bladed paddle.

    It's that simple.

  7. IDK BOY FIGURE IT OUT BY UR SELF IT IS CALLED GOOGLE DUH GO TO GOOGLE B4 ANSWERS CUZ GOOGLE HAS ALOT OF ANSWERS LIKE THAT DURR DUUR DUUR I EVEN NOE 2 DO DAT BECUZ I ALWAYZ DO DAT I GO TO GOOGLE AND IF I CANT FIND IT THERE THEN I COME HERER DURRRRRRRRRR DURR

  8. Kayaking takes place in a kayak, which has a closed top (generally) that you sit inside of. You use a double bladed paddle.

Canoeing takes place in a canoe, which is open topped (except when you use a sprayskirt in whitewater kayaking). You use a single bladed paddle.
