  1. Laundering is with water and detergent whereas dry cleaning uses chemicals in a purpose made fume closet

  2. it really depends on why you are doing it and how old the quilt is.  My mother makes and sells quilts.  She also smokes to get the smoke out of them we take them to a dry cleaner she does her thing and then bags them for us.  If the quilt is a store bought it should have a tag on it other wise it would have to be by what it's made out of.  If it's old I would advise dry cleaning because it won't be tossed around in a mechine.  if any part of it is wool it may shink being laundered.  and the batting may shink if you don't know what it was made out of....most stuff is perfectlly alright to get wet but I would take it to a local cloth store and ask them or if you are worried about it just have it dry cleaned, it may be a little more expinsive but safer in the long run if your not sure

  3. Dry cleaning is with Chinese people. Laundering is with other than Chinese people.

  4. Dry cleaning there is not water used so you don't have to worry about shrinking or damaging the fabric.

  5. Laundering uses water in an agitative situation (i.e. washing machine).  Dry cleaning uses no water and dry source situation.  Read your clothing labels also.

Certain fabrics cannot be laundered because the water is harmful to the fabric.  Items like leather, suede, silk, wool are some that cannot be cleaned with water.
