What is the difference between light oil and light sweet crude oil?

some crude oil contains sulfur which must be removed and some crude is more asphaltic in nature. there are several terms to define the nature of crude. if it is opposite of asphaltic it is light and if it contains no sulfur it is sweet. this is not a subject to really get into in this medium.

The simplest explanation is this:  The lighter it is, the less processing is needed at a refinery.  Less processing costs less money!  "Light sweet crude" just means that it is especially light and is the easiest to separate into things like gasoline, jet fuel, lubricating oils, etc., at a refinery.  So, light crude is good, but light sweet crude is best.
