  1. What is the difference between Mitosis and Meiosis?

Find answer on this web page.

  2. Mitosis and meiosis are both cell division.  Mitosis is simple cell division, where the resulting daughter cells are all identical.  Mitosis is essential for growth, maintenance and tissue repair.  Meiosis, on the other hand, is cell division that cuts the chromosome number in half.  It is essential to sexual reproduction.  Meiosis consists of two consecutive cell divisions.

  3. mitosis occurs in somatic (body) cells of both haploid n diploid organisms. meiosis occurs only in Reproductive cells of the diploid organisms.

mitosis produces 2 daughter cells. meiosis produces 4.

no. of chromosomes in parents n daughter cells r same(equational division) in mitosis.  no. of chromosemes r halved in meiosis(reductional division)

mitosis is completed in 1 division, meisos is done in 2 successive ones.

mitosis helps in growth, repair, regeneration, etc. meisos helps in reproduction(formation of gametes)
