What is the difference between monomers and polymers?

  1. Mono = one

    Poly = many

    A monomer is a small molecule that may become chemically bonded to other monomers to form a polymer

    A polymer is a substance composed of molecules with large molecular mass composed of repeating structural units, or monomers, connected by covalent chemical bonds.

    Or as my chemistry teacher used to say "A polymer is one really long stinking molecule"
