  1. different styles different focuses different ideals different philosophies, just different; accept it

  2. Okay...this will be long, but this is my answer.

Ninjutsu was the art of the Ninja.  It involved nine halls:

    1. Unarmed Fighting

    2.Wooden Weapons

    3. Bladed Weapons (swords, spears, shruiken, ect.)

    4. Flexable Weapons

    5. Specialized training

    6. Methods of Disquise

    7. Espionage

    8. Escape and Evasion

    9. Mysticism

Chakra that you see in the media, anime, ect. is usually false.  You won't create giant animals, or fly.  But it was used to focus and drive away fear before missions, or to aid in healing.

    Kung Fu

Kung Fu may have influenced part of Ninjutsu.  With a wide variety of weapons and animal forms, many of which found their way into Ninjutsu (such as the Tiger Paw, Dragon Claw and Eagle Talon).  The two are different mainly in that Kung Fu was meant more or less for the masses, such as it was taught to soliders.

    Karate

Karate is very common and popular, though far less varied than Ninjutsu or Kung Fu, it is much easier for people to learn, and serves well in Self-Defense.  Created on Okinawa, it too has weapons, but they are all wooden, due to the humble origions of Karate and Okinawa's lack of iron resources.

    Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do is simmilar to Karate, except that it is more focused on kicking, and lacks the weapon variety of the above three arts.  However, it makes up for it with agility not seen in Karate, and devestating kicks.

    Jujutsu

This art is as old as the Samurai themselves, and was used many times in battle when a Samurai was unarmed.  Advocating locks, throws and takedowns, Jujitsu was far more brutal than it is now.

    Judo

This art evolved from Jutitsu, and is a sport art, lacking the agressive nature of it's ancestor.  For Self-defense, I would reccomend Jujitsu or Judo, as both serve that purpose well.

    Aikido

Unlike Jujitsu, Aikido was much more harmonious.  Insisting that it was best to not harm the attacker when it wasn't neccessary, it has a large following.

    Tai Chi

Using slow movements, with long beautiful forms, Tai Chi is about....well...Chi.  Chi, or in Japaese Ki is Chakra was about.  They are real energies, but the media takes two approaches to them.  They either deny it outright, or exaggerate it.

    Kenjutsu

Kenjutsu was the art of the Japaese Katana as used by the Samurai.  However it did not just use the Katana, many schools taught Naginata Jutsu (Halberd), Yari Jutsu (Spear), Tanto Jutsu (Small dagger), Hojo Jutsu (rope binding, also taught in some Jujitsu schools), Kyu Jutsu (bow and arrow) and horsemanship.  Myself, I teach in my class Swordsmanship, Naginata, and Yari.  It also has a hint of Ninjutsu, as I have researched the art.

    Hope I helped.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any further questions.
