  1. To me, direct aggression (overt) is easy to identify.  The person's anger/aggression comes out directly on others and the environment--verbally and physically violent.  I've never heard of aggression as being "covert", but it must be the similar to passive aggression.  The person's anger comes out--I guess--in a covert way.  Undercover, disguised as hurtful, severe criticism; intentional breaking of things and saying it was an accident; extreme dawdling when family members/friends are waiting to go someplace important; drivers who intentionally slow down in front of you, or speed excessively around and slam on their brakes, or tailgating.  It can take any form and the "object" of passive-aggressive anger is to CAUSE the other person to finally become angry, so that that will give an excuse to become openly very angry and physically aggressive.
