  1. Location.  Panama Canal is in Middle America and Suez Canal is in Middle East.

  2. Other than the Suez Canal being in Egypt and the Panama Canal being in Panama, in Central America, the big difference is that The Suez Canal is a "sea level" canal. There are no locks. Ships can sail right through.

The Panama Canal has locks. These locks raise the ship to cross the isthmus and then lower it on the other side.

There is one set of locks in Colon on the Caribbean sea. Another set of lock is close to the middle of the isthmus and another set of locks close to Panama City near the Pacific.

Ferdinand de Lesseps, the French man who built the Suez Canal tried to build a sea level canal in Panama and failed. Everyone told him it wouldn't work but he didn't listen.

Finally, the Panama Canal, on the compass, goes from North West to South East.  The Suez is pretty much north to south.
