A plane is a tool to smooth the surface of wood.

A plain (you can't tell the difference in spelling when speaking) is a large level area of ground.

An aeroplane (the proper term used by Commonwealth nations) is a heavier-than-air powered aircraft with fixed lifting surfaces.  It is often corrupted to airplane or shortened to plane.
