  1. Well...a PLASMA TV is good cause there are bigger size plasma tv's than LCD's. But a PLASMA TV for Video games is really really bad, makes the environment look blurry and its gonna make you fell as if you are getting blind, its very bad for video games, but an LCD TV for video games is the perfect option, especially a SONY

  2. Plasma has phosphor panel cells that light-up similar to CRT and LCD displays by panel crystal cells changing colors based on charges.

    Strengths of Plasma:

    1. Good Contrast & Black illuminations: typical 10,000:1 or 15,000:1. (Most LCDs are less than 1,500:1)

    2. Good for viewing sports (faster response) (LCD shows a lot of ghosts)

    3. Native resolution (1024x768) better for SD broadcasts (NTSC or PAL) because of less signal processing & expansion.

    4. Cheaper than equivalent LCD

    5. Availability more in >40" & bigger screens.

    Strengths of LCD

    1. Power consumption (close to 60% of Plasma)

    2. Longer Life (60k-100k hours) (plasma usually < 60k hours)

    3. Better in higher altitudes (>6000 ft)

    4. Scale easily to higher resolution (eg. HD: 1920x1080 pixels)

    5. Very cost effective in lower sizes: <40".

    6. Better for connecting to computers (static contents).

  3. Just to reiterate, the first answer...you don't have to buy an LCD or plasma.  The switch is to digital TV, not to HDTV.  If your TV isn't digital you either need a cable or satellite set top box, a converter box, or a new set with a digital tuner. (even CRT sets now have digital tuners)

If you WANT HDTV, then you need an HDTV set; either plasma, LCD or a even some select CRTs.  You will also need HDTV service (which costs more than basic cable/satellite)

  4. For more info read this guide -- http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?i...

  5. no,no,no u got it wrong,u dont need to switch to hdtv by feb 15,2009(not 2008),its for people who get over the air channels, all tv stations will brocast in digital(which doesnt mean hd),if u dont have a digital tuner built into your analog tv then u will need to get a converter box

    well for your question

    i would recommend lcd:

    less glare,less chance of burn-in,lighter

plasma is cheaper for larger screen size tho
