region 1 is for north america only, and region 2 is for the uk only. So if you buy a region 1 dvd and live in the UK it will not play on a normal dvd player. You can get multi region unlock codes in the UK for the dvd player to play region 1 dvds in the uk.

2 Europe, including France, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Arabia, Japan and South Africa

The more sensible answers among those you have are right but bear in mind what you DVD Player is capable of playing. A lot of 'Cheaper' players will play multi-region DVD's and copies etc... better than some more expensive ones
