  1. You got some good explanations already, but let me add add a little more:

In the US, kids typically go to "preschool" when they are about 4 years old.  This is optional.

Then, most states require "Kindergarten" for one year around age 5.  Most kids turn 6 in kindergarten, but many start younger.

Then there's "elementary school."  This is usually grades 1-6 (ages 7-12.)  Most schools consider grades 1-3 to be "Primary" and 4-6 to be "Upper Elementary."

"Middle school" is usually grades 7-8.

    "High school" is grades 9-12.

    9th graders are "Freshmen."

    10th graders = Sophomores.

    11th graders = Juniors.

    12th graders = Seniors.

Most students graduate from high school when they are 18.

College and University are pretty much the same thing.  Your first year of college is your "freshman" year, then you're a "sophomore," etc.  But these days, most students take 5 or more years to finish college, so you can be a Senior for a few years.  These people are jokingly called "Super-seniors."

    "Associate's" is a 2-year college degree.

"Bachelor's" = 4 year degree.  These people are "college graduates."

"Master's" is the first Graduate level degree (2 or more extra years.)

"Doctorate" is an advanced Graduate degree. (college professors, doctors, etc. need this degree.)

  2. Grade 9 is equivalent to Year 10 as both are the fourth to last years of secondary / high school.

  3. freshman is 1 of the first semesters at college i think ...

  4. grade 9 and year nine mean being in the 9th grade.

9th grade is freshman year in high school [first year of high school]

the education process in america is...

    preschool/pre-k [optional]

    elementary school

    middle school

    high school

    college.

in high school a 9th grader is a freshman

    10th grader is a sophmore

    11th grader is a junior

    and a 12th grader is a senior.

  5. First is preschool, next its kindergarten, then its  elementary (grades 1st through 5th) then its middle school which is 6th and 7th grade, next its junior high that is 8th and 9th grade, and last is high school grades 10, 11, and 12. Finally we get to college.

  6. preschool

kindergarden which is in regular elementary school

    middle school

    high school

    college

    grad school

freshman is in ninth grade, first year in high school

  7. grade 9 is your first year in high school in America. so you'd be in the middle of secondary school. and a freshman is a grade 9 student. so is year nine. they all mean the same thing.

    for USA

    nursery

    elementary

    middle school/ junior high

    high school

college/ university (depends where you go)

  8. The US system starts with Kindergarten (like your year 1 in England), so the other years are one off.  9th grade is like your year 10.  Your year 9 would be like 8th grade in the US.

The US system has preschool (nursery school), which is optional, then elementary school, junior high or middle school (often grades 6-8, but there is some variation from place to place), then High School, which is usually the last four years - 9th-12th grade.  The four years of high school are also called freshman, sophomore, junior, senior.  College/ university years are often named the same way for a four year degree course.  After graduating from high school (they do "graduate" here), with a high school diploma, the next step in education would be college or university.  Sometimes students go to a community college then transfer to university and complete a degree there.  Undergraduate degrees are more generalized than in the UK (students have to take many general subjects, not just the one they will major in).

I hope this answers your question.

  9. I think grade 9 and year 9 are the same.

A freshman is a ninth grader here in the US, or someone who is in their frist year of high school [grades 9-12].

Over here its elementary school + middle school--primary school , high school--secondary school, and college/university.

  10. There isn't a difference between grade 9 and year 9, its the same thing. Here's the process

    Preschool

    Kindergarten

    Elementary School

    Middle School

    High School

    College

Some kids go to a school that has grades Kindergarten through 8th grade, so if a person doesn't go to middle school, you would just take middle school out the list and go from elementary to high school
