Okay, so I was chatting to a guy in Spain when on holiday with a friend and he told me I was "guapa" and my friend was "bonita". I asked him what the difference was, but he could not explain to my understanding, as he spoke no English and I didn't understand the phrases he was using. He said something about age, if it helps?!

  1. No they have no sexual meaning, it is just another way to say beautiful so i guess he was tryign to be out of the ordinary and say guapa instead of bonita to try and impress u or soemthig. But they just sound the same not diff

  2. Well, according to my spanish teacher/book bonita means pretty and guapa means hott or s**y

  3. Bonita means pretty, and  Guapa means good looking

  4. guapa is used frequently to young girls simply to address them e.g 'hola guapa, como te llamas?'. It is also used at religious processions to refer to a female patron saint. Both of these are totally innocuous. However it can be used in a way when referring to an older girl (to your mate on passing an unknown girl in the street, not to the girl herself) that depending on how it is said (especially how the first 'a' is elongated) can be construed to mean anything from 'she's gorgeous' to 'I'd like to give her one!

  5. bonita is more respectful

    guapa is more informal.

    :]

  6. Sounds to me that he fancied you more than her. Calling you guapa and her bonita I would have taken it as he thought you were prettier. There isn´t much difference and it all depends on how it was said, Sorry but it´s difficult to be more specific.

  7. They're synonyms, there's no difference!!!

  8. one is spelt b-o-n-i-t-a and the other is spelt g-u-a-p-a... thats the difference

  9. Bonita means pretty. Guapa means good looking.
