what i know of the gated horses i've seen they have a standing postion for shows that is called parked out....(least that's what they told me it was called)

and reading this camped out behind it seems close to the same thing(from the few pictures that i've seen as examples). what is the difference between the two terms? if there is a difference.

  1. Camped out is when a horses hock configuration is set behind the point of buttocks. This is a fault.

see page 3 for a good example.

Parked out is when gaited horses are set  up in the show ring.

  2. Parked out is a way of positioning a horse, where camped out is a conformation flaw.  Arabians are parked out when they are stood up in halter classes.

If you draw a straight line down from the point of the buttock vertical to the ground, the cannon bone and fetlock should fall along that line. If the cannon and fetlock fall behind the line, the leg is camped out.  Upright pasterns usually go along with it.  Horses built like this need work on coiling the loins and development of back and abdominal muscles (collection) to be able to use the hindquarters effectively.

  3. basically, If I am thinking correctly, Parked out is a wanted trait in gaited horses and Camped out is an unwanted triat in non-gaited horses.
