What is the difference between real time protection and HIPS?

don't they both do pretty much the same thing?

  1. Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) is a security technology that protects computers from unidentified viruses and suspicious behavior.

    I wont bother with Realtime as you know what

    that is.....but below is the difference

    The key words are unidentified and suspicious

    and of course this can mean a lot of false positives....

    which is what many Q on here are.

    Different A/V will each have their own thoughts

    on what is suspicious.

    Realtime will only look for whats in their Database.
