  1. Well this answer is coming from an AFL fan... I have watched both and the only difference to me is that in one of them you are only allowed to keep the ball until the opposition have jumped one your players 5 times then you have to kick it or have it taken off you.

  2. In rugby union there are 15 players; in rugby league there are only 13.

The biggest difference is in the tackling.

When playing league, if you get tackled then you must stand up, put the ball between your legs and roll it  to a person in your team standing behind you (this is called ''playing the ball'').Your team does this 5 times. You can be tackled 5 times if you have the ball, then when the opposition tackles you on the sixth, the opposition gets the ball.

In union you have an unlimited amount of tackles. In union when you are tackled to the ground you must release the ball and anyone can try to get it if you dont release then its a penalty to the opposition.

There are no rucks and mauls in league.

There are no line-outs in league

There's definitely more kicking in union than there is in league.

The points system is different too.In union a try is worth 5 and a conversition is worth 2.In leauge a try is 4 and a conversion is 2.If aa player kicks a penalty goal in union its worth 3 but its only worth 2 in leauge.A drop goal is 3 in union but only 1 in leauge.

    That's about all I think!

  3. Union:  15 players per team

    League: 13 players per team.

No line-outs in League, fewer penalties in League and more emphasis on continual play, instead of kicking for touch all the time as in Union.

  4. league is NRL n union is AFL. (Ariel ping pong).

  5. in rugby league u have 5 tackles and on the fifth the team often kicks it.  rugby union there is an infinite amount of tackles. rugby union there is 15 on the field and rugby league there is 13. in union when the ball goes out over the sideline they have a line-out and in league they have a scrum which are uncontested in league but in union they are contested. in union after a player is tackled they have a ruck and in league they get up and play the ball. the number system on the jersey's are also different Eg, in union the fullback is 15 and right wing is 14 in league the fullback 1 and right wing is 2. the point system is also different, in union you get 5 for a try, 2 for a conversion, 3 for a drop goal and 3 for a penalty goal. in league you get 4 for a try, 2 for a conversion, 1 for a drop goal and 2 for a penalty goal. the way the field is set out is also different, in union they have the try line then the 22 metre line then the 10 metre line then half way then the 10 then the 22 and then the try line. in league there is the try line then the 10 then the 20 then the 30 then the 40 then half way then the 40 the 30 the 20 the 10 and then the try line.

  6. There are many differences if you examine the rules, but the major difference is:

In rugby league you only get 5 chances each time you get the ball to run as far as you can. after the 5th tackle you have to hand over the ball, then the other team has a go. Therefore most of the rugby league players are trained to run as far as they can, and because they try to run as far as they can they tend to hold on to the ball instead of passing it.

In rugby union, since you get unlimited chances to get to the other end, you have to have strategies to get to the other end, because you can't just run at the other team all day, or you get really tired. so they kick it more and pass it more to try and escape the tacklers more.

apart from a few other variations, the game looks pretty similar, same ball, fields look similar.

There is usually more variation in the builds of the players in rugby union since some specialize in jumping, kicking, throwing, running fast, or pushing people out of the way of the ball. compared to league players who are designed to run hard, hit hard and tackle hard.
