I have a bunch of recipes that call for scallions and for the life of me, I could not find them at the grocery store.

  1. There is no difference.  Scallions are green onions.  It's just what they are called among professional chefs.  Kind of like escargot is just snails and calamari is squid.  Some things have different names to make them sound fancier than they are.

  2. Scallions cost more than green onions.  They are for rich people who went to private schools where they learned different words to describe the simple things.  This was so they would feel as if they were getting their money's worth from their education.

  3. NOT REALLY SURE ALTHOUGH THEY DO TEND TO LOOK ALIKE I VIEW THEM BOTH AS BEING  ALIKE  WITH LITTEL DIFFERENCE

  4. They're the same thing!

  5. I am a former chef and the others are quite correct, BUT, in Jamaica when you say scallions you get a green onion like plant, But, the bulbs are reddish like Bermuda onions, a bit larger and not as strong more sweet and garlicky like a shallot.

  6. They are the same thing.  I grew up calling them green onions and now they called them scallions.  I was confused for the longest time on this subject.
