What is the difference between single flare and double flare in gauges?

in gauges[ears] whats is the difference, and if you try to put in a double into a single will it hurt?

  1. The gauge is the same for both singe and double flared. Single flare is obviously easier to get in because you don't have to try fit the extra 1-2mm of the flare through your stretched lobe.

    It's not advisable to try insert a double flared plug/tunnel into a freshly stretched piercing, rather let it settle for at least a month to get used to the new size. Most people find the easiest way to do it is have a hot shower or bath to soften the skin and then massage the lobe with a lotion or oil like emu oil or similar, then when inserting the double flared jewlery lever it in like a button, one edge first, then the other.

    Be gentle and don't rush it. If you are really struggling, try stretching to the next size for a while so it's easy to get the double flare in.


  2. A double flare is one where the tube is bent back over itself created a stronger, crack-resistant flare.

    It's better than a single.  As long as the flare/nut angles are the same it'll be fine.
