  1. Venice S. Lucia is the last stop on the line into venice - you are in Venice when you arrive in the S. Lucia (Saint Lucy) station.

Mestre in the stop before Venice.

Soooo. Venive Santa Lucia is the closest.

  2. Venezia Mestre is on the mainland; Venezia Santa Lucia is the station on the island. Santa Lucia is the station you want if you're visiting Venice.

There are stops for the vaparetto (water bus) right in front of the station. You can either take the boats to get around or walk. It's about 35 - 40 minutes to walk from the station to Piazza San Marco, but there's a lot to see along the way. If you're taking the boats, you can get a day ticket. You need to stamp the ticket before you first use it. There are boat schedules here: http://www.actv.it/english/home.php

  3. don't stop in mestre.  its totally industrial looking and gross.  youll walk off the station s. lucia and the first thing you see is a beautiful canal.
