It sounds like you are in the learning stages of the market...

I recommend an online brokerage firm that has good beginner qualitys {like tutorials or an easy to understand set up}, i use zecco, better then schwab, etrade, etc. they are the only ones with free stock trades, no minumums..all the others will charge you fees for trading, but compare and see for yourself. A stock share is an object while stock trading is an action of buying and selling stock shares to and from other people.

My advice?  Don't jump right into investing in stocks.  Get educated first.  Try Money-and-investing.com for tutorials, and just plain good info.
