  1. For a school that has a semester system, 12 credits is considered full time for an undergraduate student.  This is approximately 4 classes, assuming they are each 3 credit courses.

Be careful, if you want to graduate in 4 years, 12 credits a semester might not be enough.  At the school I went to, 12 credits was full time, but you had to take 15 credits a semester to graduate in 4 years.

Anything less than 12 credits is considered part time.

  2. Full time status typically means taking 12 hours or more of classes, for example you can take 4 classes with each being worth 3 hours.

Part time is taking classes that are less than 12 hours.  So, if you take 2 classes that are 3 hours each, you are a part time student.

Keep in mind that finaid works different with full and part time as well on funding.

  3. Full time study means attending lectures or classes on a full time basis as in normal school (i.e: Monday to Friday). Part time study means either attending lectures only occasionally or studying remotely. The end result is that what may take two years to study full time will normally take three to four years part time.
