  1. Jamie is correct.

The composite makes a "new person" from the midpoints of the two charts and indicates the goals and purposes of the couple.

The synastry is a comparison of the individual aspects and how they interact with the other.

I actually like composite charts when identifying North and South node issues. I don't find them useful for identifying communication issues and helping couples work through potential blocks, though, so rely upon synastry for those types of things.

*Maybe certain schools reverse the terms.*

  2. no they are not.

Composites charts indicates where you click and where you do not.

Synastry gives a kind of fictional " individual" between 2 people.

    I find them both useful.

  3. These two words are often interchangeable.

  4. They are not interchangable.

Synastry is comparing two separate charts usually by placing the planets of one along the outer rim of the other.  Synastry is how the two individuals interact.

Composite chart is taking the midpoints of each of the individual's similar placements (Sun to Sun, Moon to Moon, etc) and making a new chart out of it as if the relationship itself was an individual with its own chart.  It is said to indicate how the two function as a unit.  I have my doubts about composite charts.
