What is the difference between tax form 1040 1040A and 1040EZ?

I just want to know because I'll start working and I know I'll be filling out one of this form and also how to I know when to use one of these form?

  1. Anyone can use form 1040.  Depending on your personal situation, you might or might not be able to use one of the others.  1040EZ is the simplest.  There are many differences between the forms and who can use them - if you want details, download publication 17 at irs.gov and read chapter 1.

    Some of the most common reasons for using one form or the other:  If you itemize, you have to use 1040.  To claim a dependent you have to use 1040A or 1040, you can't claim a dependent on a 1040EZ.

    Most people who just start working and have no dependents can use 1040EZ.  It's the shortest and simplest of the forms.


  2. The form you fill out at work is the W-4.

    At the end of the year when you get a W-2, you'll probably just file the 1040EZ.
