  1. Intake is different, exhaust is different, engine compression is different.

  2. you mean base model vs the type s model? base model is k20a3.. its for fuel economy.. it has 5 gear ratios for the transmission. when you engage in vtec its not that must improvement.. the cam lobes are not made for higher lift. the manifold is for daily driving and saving gas.. headers are different.. now the type S is made for racing.. I have a k20a2 or type s motor right now in y 97 civic hatch.. its amazing! just go with type s man.. you wont regret it.. plus it responds better to bolt ons like air intake, manifold, headers, etc..

  3. the engine is not the same.

a base rsx comes with the K20A3

    specs:

    Displacement: 1998 cc

    Compression: 9.8:1

    Power: 155|hp(115 kW) @ 6500 rpm

    Torque: 141 lb·ft (191 N·m)* (191 N·m) @ 4000 rpm

    Redline: 6800 rpm

    a 2005 type s rsx comes with the K20Z1

    specs:

    Displacement: 1998 cc

    Compression: 11.0:1

    Power: 210 hp (154 kW) @ 7800 rpm (SAE net J1349 Rev 8/04)

    Torque: 143 ft·lbf (194 N·m) @ 7000 rpm (SAE net J1349 Rev 8/04)

    Redline: 8100 rpm

they are not the same at all.  they are from the same engine family but design/parts  are not the same.

the intake manifold is diff also   the rsx come with a plastic one and the type is is alum i think.

  4. the type s had some weight reduction done to it so its much lighter than the base model. makes it faster and neccessary for power/weight ratio to be racing in the type s. the base model has the S****y 5spd k20a3, which most ricers or amateurs who get into the import scene thinks its hella good. my 95 integra motor can still whip the k20a3's ***, and i have the b18c1. its a must for any car made after the year 2001 to be 6 speed, its just newer and the better technology. plus it saves more fuel cuz you can keep shifting low. mainly the engine of the type s is what makes it a lot faster than base model.
