What is the difference between the Appalachian mountains and the sierra Nevada range?

  1. The Appalachains are on the East Coast and the Sierras are on the west.  I have lived in both and can say that the Sierras are pretty much dirt and sage brush, whereas the Appalachians are pillowed with the most beautiful trees ever!!  I don't know for sure but if memory serves I do believe the Sierras are taller... only because I used to also live in the Rockies where the summit by where I lived was over 12K feet and when we moved to the Appalachian I saw a mountain that said 'Big Savage Mountain - 2400 feet' Hubby and I had to laugh.  And I know where I live now in the Sierras we are over 5K ft.

  3. the appalachians run from kentucky(i think) north/ northeast thru tennessee, west virginia, virginia and maybe pennsylvania and new tork. sierra nevadas are in the southwest u.s. in california and nevada.
