  1. There is not much difference. Every state in Germany has it's own dialect and the more south in Germany, the more it sounds like Austrian, in Bavaria it sounds similar in dialect to Austria, the further up North one goes, the easiest it is for a foreigner to understand German as in North Germany there is not much of a dialect and most people in the Hamburg area do speak English. That's in the North. In the south some people speak a heavy dialect. One can usually understand as a German the different dialects. Austrians speak like Germans. The Swiss can speak normal German and they have their special Swiss dialect and that is hard to understand even for Germans and in other parts of Switzerland French is spoken and Italian.

  2. dunno but i HATE GERMANS

  3. Well there are numbers of differences. To name some, you have certain words in Germany that are not used in Austria. For example: Standard German - Oven/Range (Der Herd) Austrian German/Österreichisches Deutsch - (Der Backrohr.)  Or in German Pfannkuchen (pancake) vs. Austrian German Palatschinken.

Austrian German believe it or not doesn't really use Er/Sie/Es. They just use He/She/It alot of the time. Austrian has it's own German speaking platform, so their standards aren't the same as Germany's.

Austria and Germany both have different ways of pronouncing things. Think of Germany and Austria as like the North and the South here in America, where North and South have different accents and slangs.

Kinda like that thing where someone says Tom-ay-tow (Tomatoe) but someone else says Tom-ah-tow.

  4. As far as I know, they are very similar and completely mutually intelligible. The accents and regional dialects may vary, but such a phenomenon also takes place from region to region within Germany itself.

One of the biggest differences is the use of some expressions.

For instance, in Austria people use "Grüß Gott" as greeting. However, this is very rarely used outside of Austria and southern Germany. Overall, German varies very little between the two countries.
