Ok, I'm going to be in London June 30th through July 3rd. Landing in Heathrow and staying at theRadisson Vanderbilt in Kensington. I know how to get there but question is which of the above should I buy? If I put three-four days on it is it unlimited for those days? As long as I buy for all 6 zones can I pretty much get around anywhere?

  1. first of all you will probably only need zones 1 and 2.

secondly, an oyster card is a prepaid thing. you pay £3 or 5 deposit for the card then put money on it. It maxes out after £5.50 or something, so you can travel loads and not pay a ridiculous amount. You can probably buy 4 day travel cards, but you might as well buy a weekly, cos it costs the same as 4 days. and you could probably get a few ££'s for it when you done if you bothered to ask a few peeps

yeah i'd say get one, but dont bother registering it or anything

  2. Since you are coming for 4 days to london, Oyster can be used as a pay-as-you-go which is cheaper than paying cash. However daily travel card would be a better option for you for 4 days. Since you cannot buy one day pass on oyster. The next available option after pay-as-you-go is 7 day travel card which can be used on oyster.

  3. Your best option is an Oyster card. Put cash on it, and just use it everytime you travel, and it charges you whatever is cheaper. For example if you travelled a lot throughout the day, and used your oyster often, then it'll automatically charge you the cost of a one day travelcard (which you do get on oyster!), instead of individual trips.

Seeing as you're here for 4 days, the cost of a travelcard for four days for zones 1-2 is roughly the same price as a weekly one, so you could get that, but again that is on your oyster. If you do go for the weekly travelcard, ensure you have extra money on your oyster should you travel outside the zones, like when you travel from Heathrow to Kensignton.
