The office of the Israeli President is largely ceremonial. Kinda like the queen of England.

The President is the CONSTITUTIONAL LEADER, while the Prime Minister is the POLITICAL LEADER of Israel. The role of the Israeli President is similar to that of a CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCH. At one time it was preferred that the President not have been a politician.
