  1. The UK is England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland altogether,

Britain is England, Scotland & Wales,

I am English & live in England a part of the UK/Britain.

  2. The United Kingdom is Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland.

It's amazing how many thick people there are who reckon that Ireland is part of the UK!!!

  3. England is just one country.

England is located on the Island of Great Britain (Britain for short)

also on the Island of Britain you have Scotland and Wales

so Britain is made up of England, Scotland and Wales

The United Kingdom is the Island of Britain and Northern Ireland

    The Uk's full name is:

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

there are some smaller Islands located off the shore of Britain that are also included in the UK.

The republic of Ireland, the southern bit of the Island of Ireland is not in the UK and is independent

  4. England is one of 6 constituent countries within the United Kingdom.

The United Kingdom has one government which has control over all of those 6 countries.

Each country has a varying level of devolution allowing them to veto some actos of the UK government... the Two exceptions being Cornwall and England who don't posess any devolved powers. (Cornwall is debatable seeing as it's Stannary Parliament is officialy still allowed the right to veto but the UK government don't recognise it).

The 6 Countries from North to South are....

    Scotland

    Isle of Man

    N.Ireland

    England

    Wales

    Cornwall

    Definitions::

Britain. The geographical name for the collection of Islands ranging from the Scottish Isles in the North to the Isles of Scilly in the South.

United Kingdom. The Political name for the constituent countries within the British Isles. Signified by the Acto of union (The act which brought together the seperate nations as one Umbrella nation comprising of smaller constituent nations)

England. One of 6 countries within the British Isles and The United Kingdom.

  5. Oh for the love of...

I too am amazed that some of the people above would give WRONG answers.

England is a "Constituent Country" within the UK. If you are from the USA, think of England as one of 4 States in the UK, just as the USA had 50 States.

Great Britain was a country that existed from May 1st, 1707 until midnight on December 31st ,1800. This is the country from which the USA won its independence. Great Britain (meaning Larger Britain) contained Wales, Scotland and England.

At zero hours on January 1st, 1801, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland came into existence. In 1922, most of the island of Ireland and half its population became a Dominion, and in 1937 it became the modern Republic of Ireland.

Hence, the USA’s closest ally is the “United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”. This is what is now printed on UK passports.

The UK has four “states”: England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. England has a population of 50 million people, while the other three states have a combined population of only 10 million. Thus English people have a higher influence on government policies, just as Californians have greater influence than people in the less populace US states.

Remember that Northern Ireland is NOT part of Great Britain, but calling the UK “Great Britain” is understood just as it is understood when one calls the USA “America” even though the real America stretches from Chile to Canada.

n.b. Beware: calling the United Kingdom “England” is EXTREMY OFFENSIVE to the people from the smaller three states.

    Best Regards, Neil

  6. The United Kingdom is England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland combined.   England of course is one of those cournties..

  7. the united kingdom is made up of England, Scotland, and Ireland, i suppose you could include Wales in that but its been under the heel of England for so long theres  really no difference.
