What is the difference between the anatomical and clinical crown? (in dentistry)

my prof. told us the clinical crown is what's seen by the naked eye. and the anatomical is from the end of the clinical at the CEJ to the highest( or lowest) point of the crown. but where exactly would that be?, wudnt that techniqually be where the root starts?

  1. What your professor told you is correct.....

    go the other way............from the CEJ to the tip of the crown.....


  2. anatomical crown refers to the biting surfaces, like the molars, it shows the pits & fissures, cusps, valleys ,etc...

    clinical crown refers to the anterior or front teeth, visible when you smile!
