What is the difference between the car pool lane, and a regular lane?

Good answers, but I was wondering if All right lanes (on the interstate) are car pool lanes? I drive on a 4 lane Hwy when going to work (2 lanes each direction)

Car pool lane, if you are driving slow you can still keep driving.

In the regular lane, SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT.  Unfortunately there are too many self-righteous, oblivious, and dumba$$ people out there who will not move over to the right when someone is behind them and trying to get by.  Its common courtesy to move over and let people by.  THIS IS THE REASON WHY PEOPLE ARE SO STRESSED OUT THESE DAYS.

Theres a diamond painted in the lane every half mile or so. Other than that, only the laws governing who can drive in it.

car pool lanes are only for cars with pools or hot tubs in them.  the idea is that if your rich enough to own that kind of car you are paying lots of taxes and so are doing more then your fair share to mantain the roads and you deserve your own special lane.

car pool lane you will need to have 2 or more people in the CAR, if you ride a motorcycle a single rider can use the carpool lane.

Carpool lanes are designed to relieve traffic but this is not always the case, take a look a traffic in Los Angeles!

In the car pool lane, their has to be a certain number of people in the vehicle, usually set  by a sign. This number is usually 2 or 3 people. If there are not at leat this many people in the vehicle, then you are not allowed to drive in that lane. Fines for driving in the carpool lane without the right number of people can get spendy! Carpool lanes were designed to help pollution by having 2 people who would normally take 2 cars ride together and take only one. Also, carpool lanes are usually not as congested in heavy traffic areas, making them a lot faster route.
