  1. Unless you have a Blu-ray player no difference at all. The only high definition source for audio is Blu-ray (and HD-DVD).

Lets get a little more specific. CD audio is 16 bit 48KHz. DVD audio is 16bit and usually 48KHz. However DVD has the capability to transmit 16 bit 96KHz audio which is only slightly better than CD quality. Blu-ray has the ability to transmit 24 bit 192KHz audio in up to 7.1 channels. That is a considerable improvement over CD quality which is why it is referred to as high definition audio. But unless you have a Blu-ray player and the Blu-ray disks to go with it you don't have a source for HD audio so there is no difference between the two receivers.

  2. There are more advantages, Onkyo 606 supports upconversion and upscaling your video sources to 1080i that Onkyo 505 doesn't.
