  1. A taxonomic race is another word for subspecies, humans have only one known subspecies, homo sapiens sapiens.  An example of an animal which has different taxonomic races would be the wolf (canis lupus) which has the races canis lupus lupis, and canis lupus familiarus (which is the domestic dog).

The cultural construction of race are constructed by how humans divide different people into groups based upon skin color, culture, the region they and/or their ancestors originated from. Different peoples have had different ideas about race, and whom falls into what race, and what qualifies as a distinct race.  In other words it has varied over time and from culture to culture.
