My teacher doesn't consider the thesis the main sentence like I thought. So in an essay I had to read, she asks about the thesis and the main points. Can some one try to explain to me the difference? The essay is about standards students are given in school and how well they perform. Thanks. I will pick best answer in a few hours.

  1. The thesis statement introduces what your points are in the essay.  The thesis statement can come at the beginning, middle, or end of your essay.

  2. The thesis, from what i know, is where you state your position or point of view. The essay portion is the supporting evidence.

  3. I think the thesis is the broad, main reason

the main points are the main reasons why you feel that way about your thesis.
