What is the difference between Aurora Boraelis and Aurora Australis?

  1. As you would realise, "aururas" means "lights".

    If you studied Latin, at all, you should have realised that "boraelis" means "northern" and

    "australis" means "southern".

    So, one is in the northern hemisphere whilst the other is in the southern hemisphere. You should be able to figure out whic is where.


  2. The Aurora Borealis is in the Northern Hemisphere, and the Aurora Australis is in the Southern Hemisphere.

  4. The aurora borealis is found at the north pole, the aurora australis is found at the south pole. Aurora borealis is so named after the roman goddess of dawn (aurora) and the greek for one of their wind gods (Boreas, the north wind god). In contrast the aurora australis is solely roman in origin, again named after the goddess of the dawn the australis is the latin term for south.
