What is the difference between thermocouples and thermistors

I'm confused about their purposes. I know they both deal with temperature and I know that thermistors change their resistance, but what else should I know.

  1. Also, thermistors are more fragile, and have a much more limited measurement range than thermocouples, yet within the conditions where they work well, they can be significantly more accurate.
