  1. 99.999999% of the Orbs found in photographs are nothing but dust, rain (or other precipitation), or bugs in flight. These kinds of orbs are annoyingly common especially with newer digital cameras.

This having been said, the only orbs I would trust to be actual paranormal activity are the ones you can actually see with your naked unaided eye. These orbs are exceptionally rare so try to record them if you see them.

With the foggy stuff you need to pay attention to the air temperatures you are dealing with and whether or not there are any steam sources (car exhaust, breath), or smoke sources (fires, fireplaces, tobacco smoking). You will also need to make sure there isn't a developing fog bank forming. If you can rule all of these issues out then you may well have captured either ectoplasm or the faint outline of a pre-manifest ghost.

As for the difference between the two, IF you actually run across visible orbs those I will grant you can actually be a manifest ghost in some cases, in other cases are a ghost trying to manifest itself. As far as Ectoplasm is concerned, the jury is still out on that as I have heard theories that they are everything from the product of a posession, and a ghost that is having trouble manifesting, to the "vapor trail" of a passing ghost.

  2. Balls of light are Orbs, orbs are  spirit energy in travel. Sometimes they can be seen with the naked eye and can range in several diffrent colors from white to rainbow. In pictures you have to look very close to make sure its not a bug, water drop or dust. I feel the ones that give off their own light in photos are closer to the real spirit energy than dull transparent ones. They diffrer from the foggy mist when they decide to stop moving and forming a more solid "ghost" form of energy. Just my opinion of course but I have been ghost hunting now for several years. We have some orb pics and a few misty forms on our web site if you want to look them up at huronvalleyparanormalinvestigators.com.. I hope its ok to give our web address!!

  3. Well the balls of light are called orbs which are gathers of energy. And the foggy ones are just dust or fog which light is reflecting off of. Orbs also move in a free pattern and dust or fog stays in a fixed pattern.

  4. Balls of light? Are you referring to the "foo fighter" phenomenon where balls of light are seen near a plane in flight (And gave the band its name!)?

  5. Some balls of light is caused by ball lightning...a rare form of lightning.  People attribute this to UFO's or ghosts or something, but as always there is an explanation for it.  I will be convinced of ghosts and alien UFO's once non-foggy, non-fuzzy, non-hazy definitive footage or images are taken (and not photoshop'd).

  6. I think you are talking about orbs, which are spheres of energy that suggest a paranormal activity is going on nearby.  Most, if not all, of what you will find in these photos are dust, water vapor, reflections, etc, and should be taken as such.  Most serious (and good) ghost hunters will discount this as evidence because they are hard to distinguish whether or not they are real or environmental problems.

  7. Orbs or Balls of light are supposed to be spirit energy. This is something that is yet to be proved. Most of the time it is dust or water or some other object. The foggy misty thing again are thought to be shadows or premanifested spirits. It can be other things though.

  8. i don,t really know a lot about balls, but i know a lot about foggy figures. i have seen several figures, they unscrew light bulbs, turn on gas, water,tv.they can also, turn on the lights, and air conditioner. through tapes, shoes, cloths. they can walk and whistle so you can hear them.when they touch you on the arm,you can feel the hairs move on your arm. in pitures i have seen foggy figures over or beside or even in frontof us. we know of 2 different spirits in this house.maybe 3.if you go to to sleep on the couch, one will hit the end hard and wake you up,if there is nobody else there.

  9. The balls of light are called orbs they are supposed to be the energy from a spirit manifesting The MIST figures (foggy) are supposed to be the spirit in it's manifested form. So the difference is one is manifesting (orb) while the other is in complete spirit form (Mist)

  10. (The following information has been taken from several websites - this is to save YOU time from searching).

Orbs, spears, globules, balls of light, globes -  different names, referring to the same thing... a mass of energy in the shape of a ball, there are several classifications depending on size, ghostly apparitions are usually always associated with an orb and are present.

They are usually defined as energy anomalies that are recorded on film, digital cameras, infrared monitors, and videotape. They have also been seen using night vision goggles. Orbs provide the best evidence of a haunting though are usually caught accidentally - and can be mistaken for dust particules caught in the middle of a camera flash. (I did experiments on this, so I know).

They are believed by many to be the soul or spirit (human & animal) of those that have passed on from this life. The orb shape is obviously the most convenient way for them to travel around in their present state. There are other theories about orbs as well. One would be that they are a separate life form all together and are undetectable to the human eye because of their finer tissue.

Apparitions, disembodied spirit - refers to your 'foggy figures'. Certain gifted psychics see them on a regular basis but as for the rest of us it's a most RARE occurrence. Catching an apparition on film is what every ghost hunter aspires to but seldom, if ever sees. They show up in a transparent human form and wear the clothing of their period. You might also note that they normally appear faint and disfigured as in being incomplete.

The appearance of an apparition seems to be motivated by the particular anxiety on the part of the entity.  The need is felt to deliver an urgent message of perceived danger, worry, death or illness.  Apparitions seem more likely to manifest in moments of crisis.  The perception of an apparition is not restricted to the wee hours of the morning or to those who are in some private place.  It can occur at the most unexpected moments and publicly.

The message given by the entity is usually brief as if the power to bring it is limited.  Those seeing apparitions of the dying or dead often report feeling chilliness.  Apparitions may appear quite solid and yet objects may be seen beyond them.  They also may be accompanied by bright light.

  11. Why, they are totally different entities!

You can't just see a ghost and go, "Ah, yes, that is a ghost. And that is the sceintific name, too." The word ghost can mean a lot of different beings and it is applied rather loosely.

So I guess they are both ghosts, but they are totally not the same kind. Foggy figures are more human or humanoid beings, but balls of light are probably energetic beings or just consciousness of some kind.

  12. Those balls of light are called ORBS... the mist is called Ectoplasm... there is no real science behind proving or disproving ghost existance.. most likely, orbs are dust on the lens, and the "fog" is from vapor exhaled from the photographer.. They are supose to both be spirits, just in different form...

  13. the balls of light are called orbs

they are elements of a departed person and have reminants of the soul in

foggy figures are ghosts that have the energy to manifest themselves into the form they used in life
