  1. There is no difference between "gaining" muscle and "toning" muscle. It's basically a misunderstood part of working out. When you refer to "toned" it basically means you have low body fat.. Gaining muscle is gaining muscle, that's how you'll increase size, and have that "toned" look if you have lower body-fat.

They have some great articles on: http://www.swolefitness.com/ - So I'd suggest checking it out. Take care!

  2. toning your body is complete bull

high reps wont do **** but make you tired

    low bf=tone

i used to be toned after loosing 55 pounds

never did any exercise over 10 reps...

    but in muscle gaining

since you HAVE to eat so much to build muscle

your always going to make fat, unless your naturally skinny you wont be hit as bad

if you do cardio before and/or after weight lifting it will be detrimental to your gains in muscle

    because u need calories

which is why people go on bulking phases...they eat so much food so they bulk up, they add fat and muscle

then go cut...basically they loose fat and try to preserve muscle mass then do it all over again

if you dont youll become a gigantic fat *** lol

    but yeah

just trying to clear that up for you

but for the exercise plan...i got one for you

    ITS MAX OT SON

    i love this routine...its great

take a few weeks to become aquainted to the weights...learn good form

    learn what weight to use

    learn learn LEARN

    btw read everything...very good info

and you dont need there supplements lol get your own whey protein doesnt really matter what kind i like six star whey personally

and for calories...its based by your weight times 16-20

    like i need 3200 calories a day...i weight 160 so yeah

btw 4-6 reps is a good rep range...dont listen to these fools

  3. well you should go at it at the same time,  every time you workout before you start to get heartrate up and burn calories go on tredmil or elyptical for like 200 cals or 30 minutes, then start ur weight training, you can run after but not as good

  4. Yeah these answers have covered it pretty well. You can do which ever you want first. Check out http://rippedmuscle.blogspot.com

  5. Well, I've tried both toning and building mass and the techniques I will share with you, WORKed for me!

For toning you want to do High reps and lower weights. So you can pick a weight that you can do a total of maybe 20 reps with. Rest and then do it agian for 3 sets or more if you want.

To build mass, You go for LOW reps and HIGH weights. Take a weight that you can ONLY do 8-10 reps of and do it for 3 sets or more. Also If you want to build mass you could take supplements like protein and creatine, but you need to make sure to not overdo the supplements.

  6. If you are looking at weightlifting, then doing weight that lets you do 12-16 reps is more for toning. For muscle, then doing 8-10 reps is good. Different kinds of exercises usually call for different amounts of reps anyways. If your ultimate goal is to build up muscle, then just go straight for it because you will get toned anyway and then bulk up as you go. If you just want a leaner look, then don't go too much for building big muscle. Push ups, sit ups pull ups etc. and other calisthenics are good for anyone, and those types of exercises don't matter how many reps you do. Max out on those until you can't do anymore because for those, that's where the results come in. Not just doing 12 reps when you could have done 20 for example.

  7. Toning the body is when you want to slim down and streamline the muscle mass so that it shows the muscle.  Another description is when you use the term "lean".  Your showing the characteristics of the muscle.  Have you ever heard of Cybergenics.  I used it a few years ago from GNC.  It is a great muscle toning program that also focuses on muscle mass, which is building muscle.

For Example: You start with your max weight or whatever you can do 15-20 reps with this weight.  Then immediately after that you do a set of about 8-10 reps with less weight, then afterwards, another set of about 3-5 reps with less weight.  It's like a pyramid.

It's a combination of lean body mass, toning and building muscle.  Do that 6 days of the week with one day off, rotating your body parts.
