  1. dfinition-

        1 joule= the energy generated when 1 ampere of electrical current, passes through an electrical potential 1 volt drop,

      1 watt= 1 joule/second

    so joules is the quantity of energy,watt is  tthe rate of generation of energy.

    watt=energy/second.

    volt ampere in ac ckt is reactive power and nothing .

    loads such as induction motor do not act pure  resistors ,but like as inductor.

    the watt rating is typically 65% of volt ampere rating.

  2. In DC and purely resistive AC circuits there is no difference.  In AC circuits with inductive and/or capacitive loads VA is used for total power, VAR for "reactive" power, and Watt for "real" power, the power used to do work or provide heat.

  3. VA = Volts x amps

    Watts = Volts x Amps x cosine of phase angle between volts and Amps
