  1. Weight is the gravitational force on mass. Mass is the quantity of matter in something.

    In the SI system of units, mass is measured in kilograms, kg. Many other units of mass are also employed, such as:

        * gram: 1 g = 0.001 kg

        * tonne: 1 tonne = 1000 kg

        * eV/c2

    The SI unit of force (and hence weight in the mechanics sense) is the newton (N) – which can also be expressed in SI base units as kg·m/s² (kilograms times meters per second squared).

    Mostly we use kilograms etc as our weight units in everyday use

  2. weight is gravity's pull on you

    mass is how much matter there is on an object

    the si units are NOT the same

    mass is the gram (kilo..hecto...deca....deci....centi...m...

    weight is the newton

  3. Mass represents the amount of matter in an object.  SI Unit = kg

    Weight = mass x g (gravitational constant), and measures the gravitational force acting on an object.  SI Unit = N (Newtons)

  4. The term 'Weight' now includes the acceleration due to gravity and is measured in 'Newtons' (N).

    'Mass' is now the term used for what was once 'weight' as the amount of matter in a substance and is measured in 'Kilograms' (kg).

    Example: A Mass of 100kg will have a Weight of...

    100kg x 9.81m/s² (Acceleration due to gravity).

    = 981 Newtons (981 N).

  5. Weight is the gravitational force on mass. Mass is the quantity of matter in something.

    In the SI system of units, mass is measured in kilograms, kg.

  6. weight is mass under the effect of gravity.

    a certain mass only has the same weight on earth; in space the same mass is weightless, right?

    same units, just a matter of semantics really.

    4.45 Newtons (weight) = 1 pound (either) = 0.4536 kilograms (mass)
