What is the difference between woods, hybrids, and rescue, and how long should the different clubs go?

Is a 3 rescue equivalent to a 3 wood?

How does this work?

I think I messed up ordering all kinds of stuff from the Internet.

Last week I ordered:

3 and 5 Wood TM V-steel

3 rescue TM R7 Draw

7 wood TM Draw

Does this look okay, or did I buy double up of something?

Any suggestions of other stuff I need in my bag to get it complete?

(I already have TM R7 irons, TM Draw Driver, and TM Putter)

  1. Don't have a clue as to what your purpose was in ordering stuff if you were not sure of its function. Golf clubs should be individual things. Those that suit one person are not necessarily universal. The grips, the lie angles, the shaft flex, your swing speed, your ability all dictate what you should purchase. Apparently, Taylor Made is your club of choice. If these fit your features, you now have a complete set of clubs. As for answering your questions, Driver is used to hit balls from teeing grounds on holes whose yardage exceeds the distance one hits a driver.  The 3, 5 and 7 woods are used either from teeing grounds  where greens can be reached by the distance that each wood can be hit, or from fairways or other areas where lies dictate the use of the club  in order to set up the next shot from a preferred distance or to reach the green from the present lie. Hybrids ( Rescues) were introduced to replace the 1,2,3 and 4 irons which most average golfers found troublesome.

  2. Essentially, fairway woods (metals) are high-profile, large-faced forgiving clubs.

Hybrids are a new-tech mix of irons and woods; they are essentially irons with a wood-type backing, which offers a myriad of technical innovations, including, but not limited to, more forgiveness and higher MOI.

Rescue clubs are essentially low-profile woods, whose main attractiveness is the ability to more cleanly cut through taller, thicker grass, like high rough.  Although they generally do not offer as much forgiveness as a fairway wood (metal), they are surprisingly forgiving.

It is my opinion that you can never really over-buy on clubs.  They all offer their own unique use and, depending on the conditions you're playing in, or the current state of your game, you'll always want to mix and match, and change your clubs around to suit your current needs.  I have 32 clubs.

  3. I have a 3 rescue, and I love it.  I think you'll find yourself using that over a 5wood or a 7wood.  I think with a driver, 3wood, and a 3rescue, you're set.  but, it's all up to how each feels in your hands.

  4. A 3 rescue or hybrid are the same things. They are also the equivalent in loft to a 3 iron, not 3 wood. However they go farther  than a 3 iron because of their higher rate of enursha (sp?)

  5. hybrids are woods, irons fused. Rescue clubs are basically the same things as hybrids. Woods are drivers for the fairway. The 3 rescue was kindof a duplicate
